Planning, design, and construction management of the new International Terminal at Houari Boumediene Airport (Algiers), designed to serve more than ten million passengers per year. The project is developed to the west of the existing international terminal, creating a flexible and open-plan space that facilitates passenger flow and operations, all sheltered beneath a large undulating metal roof with long spans, supported by V-shaped tubular tree columns.
Light control and transparency are achieved through extensive glazed surfaces and light courts that penetrate the volume across multiple levels. A tensile structure is designed to cover, in its full extent, both the exterior access areas and the landside circulation zones of the airport. Inspired by organic forms, the building’s skin generates a visual sensation of fluidity and dynamism, while providing a contemporary renewal of the city’s image. It is a lightweight, versatile, and efficient solution based on high-strength textile membranes supported by a system of cables and metal masts, which ensures continuity with the architectural language of the existing building.
